Please PM me if you wear progressive lenses and know of a place in the metro that uses a lab good enough to grind your lenses correctly the first time. Bonus: the opticians can fit your glasses without improperly stressing the frame.

I've had this problem in other cities, so this is NOT a problem exclusive to this area.

If you wear single-vision lenses, please realize that your chances of getting your glasses made correctly is much higher. I need to know where the "nearly blind" people are going! (;

I’ve had progressive lenses for about 4 or 5 yrs now. I’ve gone to 3 places to get new lenses during this time. Downtown EyeCare in Capitol Square, Urbandale Eyecare (for sunglasses) and most recently Westrum Eye in the East Village.

I’ve had good luck with all three…and I’m guessing I’m as “blind” as anyone here.

I do know that Downtown Eyecare (or at least they used to) uses an eyeglasses “factory” in West Des Moines (just west of Valley Junction). I know this because I actually picked up my glasses there one time rather than wait for them to be sent back to the Dr’s office. It seemed like a busy place and I’d imagine that several of the non-chain eye care places in the metro probably use this same outfit? Just guessing.

That's possible, CCG. I'm researching that, too.

In my last state, I learned by trial and error -- unfortunately -- who used which labs and who to avoid. I've been burned twice since I'm moved. Lesson learned. I'll get a lot more opinions before I spend anymore $. Thanks for the recommendations and idea.
