I may be relocating to the Des Moines area and wonder, in additional to affordable, nice and safe housing - preferably a duplex or house - what landlords should I avoid? Which companies have a bad reputation...speaking from experience here. I usually only know this after renting, not before. I'm a mature adult, i.e., not a youngster, so looking for a quiet, safe neighborhood with a responsible, ethical and reasonable landlord. Any suggestions?

Just a heads up WIWoman - for whatever reason historically the forum doesn't have a lot of individuals experienced with renting in the metro. A lot of times rent type questions go unanswered but hopefully someone has some thoughts for you that might be helpful.
