Well I'm in Ankeny so already in the burbs, but don't mind a drive for good food that's for sure.

I'll give Okoboji credit. Unlike many places, they are able to keep their burgers from being served dry. I'm always happy when I get a burger there.

Always meant to go to Barrata's (sp?). Never made it though. I'll be in Des Moines next week so maybe I'll finally go.

Do go, it's one of my favorite restaurants. Make sure to try the pepper cheese soup when you're there.

DO NOT EVER, I repeat DO NOT EVER order delivery from Baratta's. The service is poor, but the big thing is that something always gets completely lost in translation. The food doesn't travel well to the point of being disgusting (however it is good if you eat at the restaurant and take it home to reheat the next day). Every now and then my parents will order from there and invite me over and every time it's just as disapointing as the last. Last time I couldn't even finish what I had it was so bad.

But yeah, at the restaurant it's very good. It used to be more of a family/neighborhood place when I was a kid and we would go there all the time (grew up around there), but it's a little on the fancier side now. You'll still see some elements of it being a neighborhood/family place, but more people come to it from outside the South Side now. It may be hard for a first timer to find, but it's on South Union.

I have been to Okoboji Grill in Ankeny twice when my brother lived there (before moving to Wyoming). Both times, the service was good and the food was good. My brother liked to go there and I was impressed with it. Thinking about the food makes my mouth water. I will have to stop by if I am passing through in the future.
