Looking to possibly switch my cell phone provider. Does anyone have any comments, good or bad, about the various providers in the Des Moines to Ames area?

Good question. Des Moines is one of many areas I am looking at and I'd like to know this too?

I have Verizon. Never had any issues with cell or 3G coverage in the metro area.

Verizon here as well. Fast and reliable 3G coverage in the metro area and the surrounding metro areas [Ames, Ankeny, Altoona, Norwalk, P. Hill, Indianola, etc.]

Only issues I have is sometimes out at my parents house out in the country in the middle of nowhere. Clears right up when you get back to civilization which happens to be a 10 minute drive north.

Good. Thanks everyone!

Yeah, I have verizon here in Oregon and I'd prefer to still keep it once I move ( whenever that may be. ) From speaking to others, it seems the reception here in Portland is great, but my father has them in southern Calif and he is always getting dropped calls--and he is, I think, almost done with a 5 yr contract LOL

If you already have Verizon, there isn't really a need to switch, but I just want to add (for anyone using this thread in the future) that I've always been very happy with U.S. Cellular. Reception is great and they have good customer service.

U.S. Cellular. Is that owned by AT&T or something like that ( maybe Alltel, dunno? ) but seems like it was owned or it bought out a phone service provider somewhere awhile back?.....

Nope, it's just a smaller company. It's mostly based in the Midwest, with a few other random service areas.

Maybe you're thinking of Alltel? They were bought out by Verizon.

Oh, yeah, that could be it. Who did AT&T buy out? It was the 2nd largest phone company ( after AT&T ) at the time they did it, making them even bigger now.

AT&T bought Cingular a couple years ago. Glad that the consensus is Verizon as that is what I currently have (had Alltel, but then it was acquired by Verizon). Thanks for the quick responses.
