And I thought my wheels were at risk?

In a city still in the throes of a severe depression, petty thievery is a problem, especially when expensive cars and rims can be easily stolen and flipped for a decent chunk of change. Don't leave your valuables, including your car, unattended in desolate places for long lengths of time.

In the early spring, there was a rash of car break-ins downtown. Simple smash and grab jobs, sometimes just for loose change and pop cans. Turns out, it was one guy who went for weeks without managing to get caught. Eventually, they arrested him and I haven't heard of it happening since. This stuff sounds similar. It might just be one or two kids ripping off high-end cars and rims. Hopefully, with all the focus on these cases, they'll quickly put an end to it.

Well, I sure hope they catch this guy, I drive a nearly-identical Denali, and just bought a house not far from there.

Maybe Detroit's elected officials should be driving vehicles more befitting the financial condition of the city. Better yet, take the bus.

Dave Bing does not collect a mayoral salary and uses his own money so he can buy whatever vehicle he likes.

Good point, Scolls. And let's not forget that this stuff happens in every city in the country. If a thief anywhere wants tires and rims, why would they care what type of vehicle they came off of?

When we had to live in Phoenix briefly last year, someone actually stole a school bus and tried to sell it, lol. There are bold but stupid crooks everywhere, unfortunately.

Reminds me of the news stories years ago when someone would steal Rosa Parks' car.

So Detroit's just fine. Nothing out of the ordinary happening here...People are killed in every city, so why make a fuss about murder in Detroit? Cars are jacked in every city, so why whine about Detroit? The mayor's car and Jesse Jackson's Escalade can be stolen anywhere anytime, regardless if it is Detroit?

If we say Detroit events are like any other city--no worse or no better--why isn't Detroit thriving like Chicago? Cleveland??

You believe that Bing bought this car using his own money?

Wait, Cleveland's thriving? Didn't Chicago call on the national guard to help with the homicides?
