Between Quicken and all of its subsidiaries, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and GalaxE Solutions, downtown will have added nearly 6,000 workers in less than 2 years. This shows the importance of having a strong central business district that is identified as the region's corporate core.

Growth spurs GalaxE Solutions Inc. to expand Detroit presence - Detroit News and Information - Crain's Detroit Business

As reported today, GalaxE is expanding and adding more workers to the 1001 Woodward Building. A great success story showing that 1) Metro Detroit can attract a diversified business presence with the right environment, and 2) that downtown Detroit is a strategic location for businesses to locate.

...and 3) there is plenty of available office space downtown.

From the article: "The lease will move occupancy in the building slightly above the previous 25-percent figure."

Great lunch spots? Do you mean spots where you can go eat a lunch that you brought?

We have a hard time finding great resturaunt lunch spots because everything keeps closing. Do you know of great places to gt a quick affordable and non-fast food lunch? We know a few, but they get old after a while. It would be nice to have a least 14 places. that way you would nto have to go to the same place any more than twice a month. However I would be hally to ust fin 10. .

Seriously, CJ? Between everything in Greektown, Pegasus, Pizzapopolus, Nikki's, Foran's, Sweetwater, Jacoby's, Checker, Greenwich Time, Slow's, Detroiter, 5 & 10 Bar, Hard Rock, The Coney's, Bookie's, Anton's, a handful of Asian/Thai places, Jimmy John's, Rub & Pub, Bucharest, Cliff Bell's, Nathan's Deli, Andiamo's (and everything else in the RenCen), Big City Grill, Oslo Sushi Bar, 1924 Grill, Coach's Corner, Cheli's Chili, Loco's Mexican Cuisine, Detroit Fish Market, Cobo Joe's, Fishbone's, Caucus Club, the healthy sandwich place, Motown Grille, Vicente's Cuban Cuisine... and that's literally off the top of my head, all within downtown! There's probably twice as many that I can't think of right now and don't want to bother looking up for you.

Detroit is flush with restaurants that serve a good lunch for a decent fare, and if you are willing to drive up Woodward, there's a ton more. If you can name a place within 100 miles with a higher concentration of restaurants than downtown Detroit, I'll buy you lunch!

Default Quicken Loans Looking at Moving Into First National Bldg

The Freep is reporting that Quicken Loans is looking to grab one of downtown's vacant skyscrapers, perhaps the First National Building. The article mentions that other companies may follow Quicken's lead.

Quicken shops around for space in downtown Detroit | freep.com | Detroit Free Press (http://www.freep.com/article/20101001/BUSINESS06/101001050/Quicken-shops-around-for-space-in-downtown-Detroit - broken link)

Quicken has been talking about this for a few years now. Wonder what is taking them so long? Must be having trouble signing up prospective customers for their "Super-Duper, All-American, No-Income-Necessary, 5-Year-Interest-Only, Let's-Screw-The-American-People Mortgages."

From the article:

Quicken is shopping around because it still hopes to inspire other businesses to follow its lead and move downtown.

There's the rub. Everyone is waiting for others to make the leap before jumping in themselves.

thanks Forstarters! I appreciate people on here like you and Reminisc. You guys give me hope as well.

But I've come to the conclusion that people on C-D just say stupid ignorant things without thinking. Their sole purpose is to spread hate. There are plenty of restaurants in Downtown Detroit and also midtown, new center, corktown etc all of which are in 5-10 min drive from downtown. There are websites like downtowndetroit .org that people can check out instead of just being totally negative.
