So I got a notice of a land use hearing from BS&E (Detroit's Building Dept) for the "Mercury Burger Bar"... a good sign. Apparently one of the owners is the guy who owns Joe Kool's in Troy. The MBB is supposed to be a goumet burger place. Sounds yummy. Is Corktown becoming the new resturant row?

Not sure what it's becoming, but I like it. Looking forward to trying these burgers. They've got some stiff competition since I usually go to Miller's in Dearborn to satisfy my burger cravings- and they are almost unbeatable, IMO.

I agree Miller's is pretty good. But I prefer to support local Detroit establishments. i.e Slow's, Nemo's and hopfully The Mercury.

So you would prefer a suburban chain, as long as it has one Detroit location, over a long-time Metro Detroit-based business like Miller's?

Your choice, I guess, but I prefer to go to places with good food and atmosphere. I don't think a restaurant is automatically evil if it happens to be in a suburb.

And Joe Kool's is a super-generic suburban chain. Why enrich them over the local guy just because they happen to open in Corktown?

I've never been to Joe Kool's, although I don't believe they are a "chain". I do beliueve in supporting Detroit businesses, whether they're Downtown, Midtown or Corktown.

This has definitely become the role of MCS in Detroit. It'll really add to area and MCS won't look so spooky at night!

Default The photo

Beautiful sepia-toned photo. What's the story on that? Who's the photographer?

I found that photo online. So, I don't know it's history. But it is a great picture of the Mercury Bar sign and the train station.

I hate to discredit the photographers ability in any way, but that picture can be taken by anyone with a modern camera (which all have sepia and black & white options).
