The Ren Cen theater is too small for the movie screens that are standard today and the Ren Cen's design doesn't allow for reconfiguration of that space.

It would be harder to opening a theater in downtown Detroit (now) because so many properties have already been bought up and there's a little more hoops to jump through to be able to find space to develop compared to in the suburbs.

I agree about the Ren Cen. The last thing they probably want to do is open a theater where the last one failed. I often forgot that theater was even there and it was a joke in comparison to other theaters, not to mention too hard to find if your not filmier with it.

I think what the owner of Emagine should do is get with the king of downtown (Gilbert), I'm sure Dan will do all he can to make sure that movie theater makes it downtown or at least Midtown. I think a perfect spot would be where Dan Gilbert is planning to build that high rise on the Hudson site. It would be inside of the high rise but be accessible from Woodward Ave... just like that movie theaters in Manhattan.

Another idea would be somewhere on Woodward in Midtown or somewhere in the new arena district.

I like the look and density. Add a few more of those size developments to the core and you will start to rebuild the density of the core. It would be nice to see a few more high rise residential, but filling up the vacant land first makes sense.

I think for Brush Park and Midtown in general, zoning is geared toward mid-rises particularly in areas with existing historical buildings (at most 7-8 stories). It makes sense given the traffic flows but I think most new high rises will be along the river or mostly in the downtown core.

There are still a substantial number of existing high rises that can be/are being converted to apartments or condos that can provide a significant supply of housing downtown for quite a while.

Little Ceasers has redesigned their HQ to be more modern than originally proposed. The glass panes are inspired by pizza slices. Construction is expect to start this summer.

Hideous, but I am glad they are making a place for the people who like that kind of thing. Maybe it will contain them and satisfy their need to destroy real architecture. I am not opposed to bland uninspired architecture with no lasting merit, but I hate when they feel it necessary to tear down something beautiful and irreplaceable and put up a concrete/steel glass box. Let the box people have their boxes to live in, but leave the rest of us something to look at please. Still it is better than the abominations form the 1970s and 1980s.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) there is little of merit left in this area that can be salvaged, so it is a great place to create a haven for the box people. Just hope it can be contained.

Little Cesar is at least an attempt. I wonder what it will really look like. Usually the concept drawings bear little similarity to the actual building. The shape of the building (a box) is pretty standard and the details are only a guess at what might be done. When the designers get practical, then value engineering comes in, we could get something neat, or just another bland box. I wish they could put little ceasars someplace else, but still it should be an improvement over lots of other things going in in the past several years.

My approach is to look at a building in 5 or 10 or 50 years when it is not shiny and clean. Will it still appear positive, or will everyone be running to stare at the next shiny thing?
