Hello,

I have a question regarding bus service in Farmington Hills. I will be there for a few months and will not have a car and am wondering what the bus service is like there, particularly along Orchard Lake Rd. Also from 12 mile to 14 mile(I think it is). Is there a way to get to FH by bus if I lived in Novi instead of FH? Or in Royal Oak for example?

I am trying to avoid buying a car as I will only be there a few months.

Farmington Hills is on the very outskirts of SMART bus service. The routes are limited and so are probably the service times.

Here is a link to the regional SMART bus service map: http://www.smartbus.org/Smart/Ride%20SMART/Doc/NewSmartMap.pdf (broken link)

Here is a link to the routes that run through Farmington Hills: SMART - Services by Community (http://www.smartbus.org/Smart/Ride+SMART/Services+by+Community/Farmington+Hills.htm - broken link)

Novi has no public transportation of any kind. They "opt out" of such services. You will need to buy a car if you want to go to Novi. I don't know about getting to Royal Oak. It looks like it might be a pain in the arse...

Long story short, you might consider buying a car...

Good luck.

Royal Oak to Farmington would be a trip...like I said. Nightmarish infact.

Some thoughts:
* Your needs are short-term, long-term would be different. Those few months will go by quickly.
* I would live and work in Farmington for convenience (assuming there is bus convenient to your residence). Gain pals with cars for other outings.

There is a bus that will go to where I need to be, so thats something to look into. Now I only need to find a place that is near that bus line/route. Seems like staying in Royal Oak or Novi isnt an option though. Thanks.

My understanding is that SMART has an on-call shuttle van connector service over and above its regular routes. Possibly some apartments provide similar services of their own. Outlying complexes seem to recognize the need for this.
I'm no expert, but it's something to look into imo.

Thanks for the replies. SMART service will take me to where I need to be, so no need for a car. Thanks again.

That service is very expensive though, I believe it's $8.00 a trip one-way.

I actually checked for this in Farmington Hills area and its $4 one-way there, from what I read online. It's curbside service.
