Hi,

I'm looking for a place (home, apartment, condo) to rent in the Livonia/Farmington area (I275 & 7 Mile). Looking at apartmentratings website, NONE of the listed ones seem comfortable or safe at all. Are there any newer, less problem-prone places to rent in that area? The place is for only myself.

Thanks in advance.

That corridor is very commercial. Might be better looking at the 5 mile / 275 / Newberg area.

That's fine. 20 mins drive is what I'm looking for.

I was thinking $700 at most, as long as its comfortable, safe, in good or very good condition. Yeah Novi is fine.

$700 might not get into Farmington, Novi, or even Livonia? here are a few places along 7 Mile west of Haggerty that are $650 or $750...they were the old Innsbrook apartments.

Many apartments in the area list on craigslist. It can give you an idea of places. Also on apartment ratings it is not always accurate feedback. I am not that familiar with Novi or Northville apts. If you are noise sensitive watch out for trains because there are some that run near apts in that area I do know.

So many old places... ouch. I wasn't expecting to pay over $700 for rent but that seems to be the case. Isn't homes dirt cheap in Detroit?

Homes might be cheap but taxes aren't and its always about location. The cool places to live around metro detroit are in the *heart* in and around downtown, ie midtown, new center, woodbridge ect..... and if you live in those places you will get exactly what you pay for.

ferndale, novi, royal oak, livonia and the like are considered the suburbs of detroit and no you don't get "dirt cheap" around there either. Maybe in a few instances but very rare.

I rent in detroit (a loft) and i pay 950 which is in new center. and the rates are actually running around 1300 but i got lucky
