There's no way in hell I'd ride a motorized bike on the street with automobiles and trucks. I won't even ride a motorcycle. I do ride my pedal bike quite often, but only on side streets where I can hear if a car is coming from behind me.

Now if you could convince everyone to ride one or if you had special roads for them (difficult proposition), then I'd be willing.

Then there is the problem of winter, rainy, or unpredictable weather.

I do think the auto makers should diversify more. I think they should build other motorized equipment like foreign automakers do. GM used to build refrigerators (Frigidaire). They should also be building Light Rail vehicles.

So, you think that vegetable oil powered bicycles are going to save Detroit?

Hugs, not drugs, kids.

The automobile saved Detroit and people thought that was crazy at the time.

GM used to be one of the largest, if not largest builders of diesel electric locomotives in the world.. until 2005 or so when they sold the Electro Motive Division. So GM doesn't seem to be intrested in building rail equipment anymore.

The automobile was also the main cause for the decline of Detroit.

?????????????????

sarcasm?

Seems to me it was the lack of diversification that was the cause of decline. Was the automobile the cause for decline of Toyota City, Japan, also?

They also used to build buses. So clearly they are able to build light rail vehicles.

Maybe they should be. I could never claim that GM's management has displayed any level of competency in recent years though, so I agree with you.
