I am presently up for a promotion. I will more than likely get the job. Thus, I will have to move my family from the suburbs of Atlanta back to Detroit. Now, we have school-aged children so we need good school districts so we definitely do not want to live in the city of Detroit. We are presently considering Novi, Northville, West Bloomfield, Farmington Hills and Canton.

Do you know of any good websites to find rental homes? We will have an income around $140k/yearly. We live in a $1700/month new build construction house now that is huge. It's about 3,800 square feet. We'd like something comparable. Maybe not as big but a newer home.

What is the rental market like up there? We have decent income. Problem, we went several years on one income while putting each other thru school and starting a family so our credit is a bit bruised. No evictions/foreclosures or anything of that nature nor any outstanding issues. Will we have a problem finding a home to rent in the $1700-2600/month rent? Will we have a problem being approved? We've been paying rent at $1700/monthly for 4 years now here to support our case despite our credit score.

Well you can look on realtor.com under rentals and then call a listing agent. Be honest with your situation and the owner may be ok with it. Also craigslist though be careful of scams. Hotpads and zillow(?)

Trulia and Zillow rental searches are pretty useful. Both are pretty much the variation of the same site.

You can probably find what you're looking for but they'll be in very low numbers. $2200 would get you something around 2300-2700 sq ft house depending on the city. Homes are cheaper in Wayne County (Canton area) than they are in Oakland County (Northville to West Bloomfield). You're also more likely to find newer homes in Canton depending on how old your looking for.
