I've thought about it, still thinking...

Have the auto companies (Honda, BMW, etc.) that were boycotting the NAIAS returned this year?

You obviously do not have a family of 7 with only 1 who qualifies for the children price. Fortuantely, only my 2 boys wanted to go. Also fortunately parking is free for us. (We go to the $1.50 movies in Allen Park).

I am into cars, but i am into neat cars. 45 different versions of the Traverse and 30 models of similar looking four door sedans - not so much. However there were some gems.

When I win the lotto, my first stop is Holly Michigan. If I did not need to help with college tuition for 5, I would be going there right now.

I couldn't find a story that mentioned which ones left or came back but I see Honda and BMW on the map.

It was either BMW or Volkswagon and definitely Honda (this was when the Auto Companies went through their bankruptcy).

Everyone's seems to be there this year, which is great (several of them were also threatening to boycott the NAIAS if we didn't do something about repairing/expaning COBO Hall).

Hmmm, the only ones that seem to be missing this year are Saab and Rolls Royce, although we may see Rolls Royce mixed in with the BMV showcase. I assume Saab isn't there because they're in the middle of financial trouble.

It was Porsche that refused to come.

I go to bridal shows all the time and I'm a dude...my wife is in the business and I talk to a lot of brides when we're there. I do feel a teeny bit out of place at the Chicago Bridal Market...the wholesale bridal show, but a lot of the manufacturer's reps are men, so it's not that bad.

Back on topic, Nissan and Suzuki were gone for a couple of years. That's when I stopped going as both would be on my short list if I were going to buy a new car. (I actually like Suzuki cars and have for a long time. Those Daewoos they were selling for a few years gave them a bad name.) I haven't gone for three or four years now...we almost went to the charity preview this year- my wife found cheap tickets on craigslist but we didn't go. I really don't like new cars much anymore. The newest Hyundais and Kias disgust me (and I'm reeeeally leery of direct fuel injection), I don't like that '13 Fusion...it has the front end of an Aston Martin, I don't like the rest, and it'll probably be made in Mexico to boot. GM lost me after killing Pontiac and Saturn and after pretty much disavowing their pre-'09 production (my '07 Saturn has been a bit of a disappointment). Ford Division is charging Mercury money for Fords now, and their cars are far too tech-heavy, and Chrysler hasn't made a passenger car that's lit my fire for years.

Verdict- Am I going? Probably not, not unless my friend who works at the car dealership gets me tickets. The only thing I really want to check out there is the Transit Connect. That thing is amazing.

The wife and I went last Saturday night, she had to pry me away from the Boss mustangs, and the Shelby display. Ford also had a "dyno" run where you could sit in a new Shelby convert while their driver did the dyno. GM had an green anodized Camaro on a giant Hot Wheels track. I was kind of surprised to see Maybach there, last I heard they were going out of business. It still isn't as big as I remember it a few years ago when Jeep had a giant waterfall display. This year they had a parade through the show with cops on bikes, and a bunch of the cars.

My family went yesterday. The Ford display put all the others to shame. Good job Ford.
