I am a 27 yr. old that is being transferred to the Detroit area. I will be working in the Plymouth area. I need some help with suggestions of where would be a great area to look for an apt., condo or town home. I would like to be in an area with other young professionals and some restaurants, bars, shopping etc.
Can anyone help?

Downtown Plymouth or Downtown Northville areas. Look at apartments along 6 mile, and 5 mile from I-275 westward. Haggerty and 6 Mile is a mecca for shopping and chain eateries dinning.

Ann Arbor would probably be the most fun. IT is a colelge town, but also a lot of young professionals stay in Ann Arbor at the beginning of their career.

Plymouth is pretty neat. Not supre exciting, but a pleasant downtown. It is very close to Ann Arbor. Plymouth is one of the better towns int eh Detroit Metro area.

Northville iswonderful, but more family oriented.

If you do not mind living in a sea of souless subdivisions and strip malls, Novi has a bit more going on as far as bars etc., but it does not have a downtown.

Royal Oak is probably the best option of all, but it is not a pleasant commute.

It's mainly suburban but downtown Plymouth has a few bars and maybe a possibility of a few other young professionals.

There are not many young single people in Plymouth or especially Northville. They are absolutely lovely places to live but the answer to your question if there are a lot of single people in their 20s, the answer is a resounding NO.

In plain terms you are looking at Ann Arbor and the Royal Oak area and that is pretty much it.

The 696 commute from Royal Oak-Plymouth is somewhat of a pain but that's pretty much life in metro Detroit. You will be among legions of people doing it.

Downtown or mid-town Detroit also might be fun for you, but the commute is basically an hour each way. You can beat that time, but you rarely will. .

Ferndale may be another option, but it is in the same boat as Royal Oak.
