I really enjoy the city and think that it has a bright future, but it also faces many difficulties and will take some time to turn the city around. I am interested on peoples opinions on these different questions: How low will the population go before it rebounds? When will the population begin to grow again? What are some different ways to inspire growth within the city? What are some ways to combat the problems of the urban prairie and decay in the city
My prediction is the population will bottom out around 450,000 around 2030 due to many families leaving because of the economy and the older people dying off. I imagine that Detroit will use its advantage of being the largest border crossing with Canada to its advantage, and with the right leadership in power can take off again. If the city can take care of the crime problem and provide better public transit, more population will flock into the city to have easier access to their respective jobs which will be a perfect opportunity to responsibly redevelop areas of the city that are currently abandoned. I would personally like to see the new development resemble the housing that was once in the area and be responsibly planned so there is not sprawl within the city. I predict that Detroit is poised to make a comeback in the future, but still has some obstacles to overcome before taking off again.

I predict that DEMF will be fun as hell this year, and I'll be making my way back up there to enjoy the party.

As always, some of us have been saying this for the last 40 years...and just like the Lions winning the Super Bowl, there is always SOME hope.
