I find it disturbing that this has not been in the news. Is life so valueless that we wouldn't as a society morn the loss of one who has suffered such a tragic death?

It is really odd to me that there was no mentin of it on the news. The coach confirmed it. I do not think the kids made it up. It is really strange.

Family: Body of Ambassador Bridge Painter Recovered from Detroit River

There could probably be a million speculations on what happened with the body your son's crew team found until there is an autopsy.
I just clicked on the link and read the story. I am wondering how he fell into the water, because I would think he would have safety harnesses on to keep him from falling. (He lost his footing and fell 150 feet according to the story).

Who knows. The family is suing the company claiming that the scaffolding was installed improperly and that he was given proper safety harnesses, of course the company has a clean record of almost perfect safety.

I think at some point, there was most likely a fatal human error by the painter and a combination of the scaffolding failing. The 2nd video in this link shows the bridge and it looks like something pretty major happened for him to fall but something else probably happened if his safety harness (if he had one) didn't do what it was supposed to.
