Sometimes it's worth it, depending on what kind of tax credit it is. If the move increases the property value, and the people who work there spend money on the downtown economy, then it can be a good ROI.

I didn't see anything about a tax credit for the move, which generally the news doesn't miss that kind of stuff (it's all public information easily obtainable), particularly state tax credits.

Brownfield Tax Credits, when they were around, returned almost 10x the investment of the tax credit.

With vacancy rates of occupy-able office space downtown DET hovering around 30%, I don't see how people can be picky.

Of course, and only for a whopping 70 employees (and the economic benefit from them at best will be negligible) and no HQ to tote.

In any other city, this type of stuff would, at best, make the one-line news briefs. Only in Michigan does this make the top headline and is overhyped as if the Lord Jesus Christ has returned.
