Hello all. My wife, my 15 month old and I are considering moving to GP Shores. We really like the quality of the schools and parks and the low crime rate. The house we really like is right on Vernier Rd. where it is narrows down to a 2 lane road near Lakeshore Dr. We do have a gate at the top of the driveway, but we are still a little concerned for our child's safety with living right on a main road. Does anyone have experience with raising a child on Vernier Rd. or another main road in the area? Thanks.

Just watch your kid closely as you would on any other street. Speed limit is only 30 (a notch above the typical 25 for a residential side street) and the side walk is a little closer to the road than most areas. Traffic isn't hectic through there (I've been down that stretch pretty often) so just treat it as you would with any other street.

If it's the house I'm thinking it is (if it's the one that's for sale) that's a great investment. People know better than to speed through there, for the most part.

Buy it for sure. The houses in GP are selling for about half or less than what they are worth or were in (2001 - 2003) great investment. Lake Shore Drive (Jefferson) is a 'main street' but the speed limit is 35 and is closely monitored by police and drivers do pay close attention and are careful on their speed. You also got to remember that there are sidewalks along the road closer to the inland where a lot of people walk, run, or ride their bikes. Grosse Pointe is a walkable community and the schools are always walked to by children and you will learn that most people become more active moving here with walking and riding their bike, roller skating, ect. Hope you purchase the home and welcome :-)

It may actually be easier on a busy street because the constant stream of traffic makes it more obvious to a kid not to go there. It is the quiet streets that lures them into being unaware of potential danger.
