Dearborn itself offers quite a lot. There are some good schools and good neighborhoods remaining. They have two colleges, an orchestra, a community theater group, an ok downtown, a major shopping mall, some of the best middle easern resturaunts and bakeries in the world, and best of all "The Henry Ford" - a world class desitnation meaning people come form other countries to see it and almost everyone visiting SE michigan makes a trip there. The Henry Ford has an IMax theater and fairlane has several typical mall theaters. Working there our daugthers meet lots of political figures, royalty, entertainment stars, all kinds of people, it is a neat place. Plus they change programs and events regularly, so you do not get bored having been once.

Dearborn is not perfect, but it is certinaly a decent place.

It might be a good idea to rent in Dearborn for a short time (6 - 12 month lease) while you check out other areas and decide where you want to put down roots.
What is just outside of South Lyon? Is that during rush hour?

Dearborn schools are dominated by Muslims (Dearborn has the highest Muslim population outside of the middle east). If you are not Muslim and attend one of the Muslim majority schools (Fordson is over 90% Muslim) you will be quite the outsider. If you are non-Muslim, West Dearborn is really the only place you would want to live. East Dearborn is almost like another country these days.

ADS - That's as silly as saying West Bloomfield is a Jewish ghetto and if you are a WASP you will not fit in. Take your bigotry elsewhere.

Not bigotry, belle isle, it's facts. I grew up there so I think I may know a thing or two about the schools and culture.

But you are incorrect. It does not matter whether you lived in some part of Dearborn. That does not impart knowledge of every school in Dearborn. If you add the words "some", or "certain" you will be correct.

Note the part where I said if you attend one of the Muslim majority schools, such as Fordson.

There is discrimination against non-Muslims at those schools.

Many of the 'muslims' are actually Christian Lebanese.

I think you're confusing 'muslim' with 'arabic'. Not all Arabic are Muslim.

Closest paved cross roads are 10 mile and Milford Road (about a mlie an a half from that intersection) 3.5 miles from South Lyon (Meaning 9-10 mile and Pontiac Trail.

What rush hour? She has to be at work usually around 9 and goes home in the afternoon. Sometimes the evening. Time of day does not make any significant difference for her. She does not use freeways to get there usually. Or at least not much of a freeway.

Is Dearborn or its schools now dominated by Muslims? I ask because I haven't been there in a while, but the Muslim community was a smaller part of Dearborn at the time. Via this forum, I'm keeping tabs on what's going on back there.
