And I completely agree with this one versus the outright vilification from the suburban MSM.

Detroit is a city filled with children who elect children to be their "leaders." Any defense of the city council is laughable. The only silver lining is that hopefully Snyder gets fed up enough to let them go bankrupt. Detroit does not deserve a nickel more of state aid and needs a bankruptcy judge to sort this mess out. They've proven that they have neither the understanding or will to do what needs to be done.

Actually, as a Detroiter, I also favor bankruptcy.

1. EVERYONE will share the pain.

2. The restructuring will be done legally.

Would love to see the day that the Clowncil experiences a pay cut (has their pay been cut yet?) and total elimination of their stipends / perks / supplements.

What do you think will happen to Michigan if you just let Detroit die? Young people are already leaving this State in droves because there isn't an attractive urban environment. Companies and investors are interested in investing money to create businesses in well known cities, not in unknown small towns or former suburbs next to a crater. Without anything to attract people and investors from out of State, and with young people leaving at a rapid rate, what happens? You are talking about killing the future of this entire State. Letting Detroit die will result in the death of Michigan as we know it. You can't have a major State without a major city. There are no major population or economic centers in this country outside of a major metropolitan area. Until people in this State realize that Detroit needs to be healthy if Michigan is to be healthy, we will always be in trouble.

How many billions have been lost in Detroit since the LBJ administration. Detroit needs to finally hit bottom and rebuild. It's the only hope for any kind of change. How many more years and dollars will it take before you see bailing out a sinking ship with one bucket is futile.

Peter Bagge has a great comic about the pitfalls of Detroit and the lunacy of the massive spending projects implemented over the past decades in the current (January 2013) issue or Reason magazine. At the current time it's not available online since it's in the new issue but it's worth checking out if your local library stocks Reason or if you can find it a local news stand or book seller.

I must also agree that defending the Detroit City Council is laughable. They create most of the problems and roadblocks.

Miller Canfield is a huge international law firm with hundreds of lawyers. I would take the advice of their most inexperienced lawyer over the combined "knowledge" of the Detroit Sh!tty Clown Show any day.
