I moved to Florida a while back because of the down turn. I have family in southern and northern Michigan and am hearing several different things. People in North MI say its dead as disco. Some in Southern MI say its doing great and coming back and if I moved there I can get a job in AC HVAC making 18 and hour no problem and in a few years be at 28 and hour. Is there any truth to this or is it BS to try to get us to move back home?

Not sure about $28 in a FEW years. I would suggest looking at career builder and other job sites. Also MIWORKS might give an idea about the market.

Northern Michigan always had a slower economy than Southern Michigan. As far as I know, there's not really any manufacturing jobs north of Saginaw is there? But anyway, most of what would be noticeable would be on the south side of the state.

28 an hour sounds pretty optimistic. I would assume you would need to be a skilled/specialty worker to even start at 18.

Sounds about right. I did a quick search on indeed.com and there are over 265 jobs for HVAC service folks paying 50K/year (25/hr). HVAC $50,000 Jobs, Employment in Michigan | Indeed.com
