Hi,

I would like to know if anyone works at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI and if so can you give some incite on the culture of the company within?

I am currently being considered for a contract position with the company. I have over 10 years experience in automotive/manufacturing however not with Ford.

I am wondering what the chances are of being hired in permanently and how long it usually takes. I am also wondering how is management, work/life balance, overall culture, etc.

Please share as much as possible and if anyone would like to feel free to private me.

I look forward to any responses. Thank you!

I want to say that there are quite a few people working at FoMoCo in Dearborn.

I have a family member who has worked in Dearborn for quite a few years (at least 8) as a contractor. I am not sure if this is the norm? He has no desire to be hired in house. He likes being independent, but that is just a personal choice.

First I would like to say thank you for your response.

8 years is quite a while and now that you mention it I think I have heard of people being employed at FMC Dearborn as contract workers for a long period of time. I wonder why is it that Ford does this, besides the obvious of not having to pay benefits.

Well, I guess it is still a good thing. I wouldn't mind I guess especially if it is ongoing such as your family member's position, however how do you shake the concern of whether your job is secure when you are contract. It seems if they were to do lay off's etc. contract workers would be first to go.

Would you mind sharing your family members title?

My brother works @ FMCO as well as a contract employee. He loves it. It is the best job he has ever had as far as employment conditions. He does some computer stuff as well. They give contract employees many of the same benefits as full employees (car discounts, access to that cool shop thing, discount auto show tickets). I know there are a lot more advantages, I just do not know all of them. he has been there for only a year or two I think, but he would be happy to stay there for 20. I have not heard him say one negative thing about working there.

He says the people are generally great to work with and the asmophere is healthy - not typical corporate mentality. They listen to him. Ford has always seemed to have their act together when it comes to managment type employees. They treat them well.

zthatzmanz - odds are fairly good your family memeber works with my brother.

LOL Thanks! That is good to know they treat contract employees as regular Ford employees. Based on my past experience (as I have worked contract for some companies for years), a contract worker is basically the same. Contract workers give just as much and are just as valuable.

Isn't that what grand-pappy used to tell our pa?

I just asked my wife (yes she is doing fine CJ and sends her best), and it is her niece's husband who works at FoMoCo. He has actually been there for close to 20+ years. He loves it as the job seems to provide him with ample time off to travel to their two condos throughout the year. I guess there is some type of retirement (may be a 401?), since he is ready to go in the next 12 months or so.
