Michigan auto thefts decline | WOOD TV8

NPR just announced thefts dropped 7% in 2011. That's impressive in a state where chop shops (along with scrap-metalling and pot dispensaries) are almost the only growing industries.

Now, if only they would start an Auto Mechanic Ripoff Prevention Authority.

Did you get stuck in 2008? A large number of industries in Michigan are now growing. Actually Pot dispensaries got virtually shut down by a supreme court ruling.

You need to get away form NPR and find some news discussing what is actually gong on. Being that 7% came from NPR I woudl expect the real number is actually different and the 7% is a number modified by changing definitions so the number will meet whatever agenda they are trying to promote today. I cannot help you much finding unbiased news, ut at least the mainstream news reports things form this decade.

You auto mechanic ripoff prevention authority can be fund in your nearest mirror. Get a Haynes Manual for your car(s) and read it. Then you can either DIY or at least understand when they are feeding you BS.

I wonder how much of the drop is attributable to the authority (& police) and how much is attributable to the theft prevention technology built into cars nowadays.

That chart in the article is baffling. "Month"???, "Day of Week"????, "Color"??????

Likely the same rate at which people no longer can afford a luxury item like a "car".

Combine that along with Michigan has one of the highest seatbelt compliance in the U.S. , one would think that auto insurance rates would go down lol

If that was the case, wouldn't you think auto thefts would go up if most people couldn't afford cars instead of down???

No much call for stealing a 15 year old car full of rust.
