Most cities and most states have a couple socialist parties...

Did you know, besides the Democrats and Republicans (who are both socialist), there were 4 other socialist parties in the 08 Presidential election?
That there were at least 6 in the 2012 election?
New York has it's own socialist part too - the Working Families party.

It's all besides the point, the US has been socialist since at least 1932.

And yet, despite that ill-informed feeling, you seem to be enjoying life in Massachusetts...

It's the demographics. The demographics of Detroit assure a "getting something for nothing" attitude. An entitlement mentality.
Seen this phenomenon in so many places.... that any lame or politically correct arguments to the contrary here will be in vain.

The USA has always had socialist (government-run) health care.... in the form of the Dept of Veterans Affairs, the Indian Health Service, and the Dept of Defense health system.

The number of food-stamp recipients would not be so high, if the USA minimum wage had kept pace with inflation. In Canada, Australia, and Western Europe, the minimum wage is around $15.00 (versus I think $7.40 in USA). In effect, the Fed food-stamp program is subsidizing McDonalds' and Wal-Mart, etc.

Detroit failed to attract business and has been out-competed by nearby Oakland County. Other one-industry towns like Pittsburgh were able to attract new industries but Detroit did not.

The U.S. has been one of the world's most populous countries for decades. Socialism just cannot work with the number of people living in this country. Detroit is proof of that. I am for providing for the needy, but socialism (Detroit economics and Obamanomics) encourages this:
** What is Obamanomics? I have heard that term on Faux News as a generalization of whatever they can find bad about the economy, but never specifically what it is.
** Another purposely vague Fox term is "race-baiting democrats". Does this mean that discussing race is "baiting"?
** The bolded above sounds really off-the-cuff. Success of socialism connected to population? You say Detroit is indeed socialist, and the citizens there really don't want jobs and are happy with a cushy life on welfare? That is one Fox talking point.
This pretty well explains the RW Fox view of the "great unwashed" in general.

Like Faux News, are you totally unaware of outsourcing and obstructionist antics in Congress? The idea that Detroit's problems stem strictly from within city borders sounds like just another self-serving Limbaugh talking point. I'm not saying that past city councils haven't been clueless and without vision, but that's only part of the problem. Businesses do as they please and go where they please - China, Mexico, Bangladesh, wherever. I think city government should have realized decades ago that the auto industry A) would become more multinational, B) would suffer more competition, C) has always had zero allegiance to Detroit City and would gleefully abandon its factories in pursuit of the bottom line.

Since you know all about this issue, you should say why Oakland County (which contains the city of Pontiac) successfully "competed" with Detroit for businesses - who they were and what were the enticements. Doesn't it stand to reason that business of all stripes do better where customers are more prosperous?

There may be a Socialist Party here, but they're marginalized. This is the first I've heard about them. The city is probably 80-90 percent Democrat, the suburbs depend on where you're at, some areas are heavily Republican, some heavily Democrat, and a couple of miles can make a huge difference.

These facts are proving themselves.

Detroit = Tons of people on welfare = sharing = socialism.
