Come on people, is Detroit really "Hell on earth"? Most cities have a east, west, south or northern part, and one of them is the crime-filled area, but I have heard all of Detroit is like it, I live in Clevlenad, and the side that is crime filled here, well, thats east Cleveland. So am I right about what people say? Because I dont think I am...

Some folks may agree with you when others will tell you it's fine. It all depends who you talk to. Detroit is number two on the Foreclosure list with 1 out of every 33 houses in Detroit is in Foreclosure. This makes people do some strange things to just get by. But you can look at the suburbs and it aint much better, On the News we have two teenagers who Burned and cut a guys head off just last week, So is Detroit that bad Well

It's a very backward thinking area for today's world - Detroit grew to prominence in an era when rural people moved to big cities to do menial jobs - quality of life beyond that was irrelevant because everybody had jobs. Today, people have freedom of mobility and the ability to choose quality of life over the necessity of just taking a job. The Detroit area hasn't grasped this yet - that you need funky, walkable neighborhoods and great cultural amenities in order to attract the creative class and the jobs.

So, you have to look at Detroit as a metropolitan whole. If you break down the political boundaries between the well over 100 suburbs and the city, then you get an incredible amount of economic diversity - one of the wealthiest counties in the country is just over its northern border, and Grosse Pointe is just east of the city. But while there are some pockets of stability (most recently downtown, due to the influx of people) there really is no side of the actual Detroit City that is overwhelmingly contrary to the outside perception.

every little city is in it for itself with minimal awareness that they depend on the others - especially Detroit - to make it in the new economy.

the east side is bad. everybody knows that. ever see 8 mile? that was on the east side. the area around the bridge to canada is no picnic either. most of detroit sucks. the downtown "core" is being rebuilt, and the foxtown area is very nice.

You cannot generalize about any City. In places, Los Angeles is the most horrible City that you will ever see.

Detroit is really run down. Even the nice areas need some work. However it has some places that are really lively and fun. I just started working downtown, and I love it here. Lots to walk to.

Detroit is bad all over, however, there are some nice areas around town. Still, Detroit has claimed the most dangerous city in America title once again.

Detroit is scary. I don't care what anyone says. I used to go to school at UofD Mercy and I had to get off 75 at McNichols and drive to Livernois. The **** I saw was like no other. Deja Vu's lights are always great at night too. There is a bum that marks his spot at McNichols and 75 right when you get off and he started peeing in front of everyone at the light. I feel bad for him, but still. Also, I know someone who got robbed by a gun at 7 and 75 and he was a huge guy and it was 5pm.
