I found this lying on the ground in the middle of the hallway open on my way to visit my girlfriend. It did not say a name or an address, but I could not help reading all the caps lock words on the message.

My question is, isn't this an illegal eviction?

I mean, thank god my girl pays her rent on time, but damn, I never seen an apartment landlord call someone a squatter on red paper and tell them they have to move out immediately and turn in their keys without going to court to explain themselves.

I'm glad I don't live there. I would have lost it on their behinds whether I was behind on my rent or not.

Just want to know if this was legal to send messages like this to tenants.

Please see attachment.

It's just a threat for back rent, and the status of a legal eviction here is vague. Sounds like the tenants haven't actually received an official notice to vacate. This is not one, and it is red as an attention grabber.
So much unknown here, but the landlord is sounding a bit desperate.

If this were from a debt collector it would be illegal. Or at least some of oit would be, However tenant/landlord relationships follow the sames laws. As stated above this is not a legal eviction notice. . I wonder if the landlord has even legally started the evection process. Im thinking they havent. And they are trying to scare the person into leaving or paying the money owed. This almost seems like the first step to a legal eviction. Before a landlord can file in court for an evection they must send the tenant a letter stating that they need to pay $X and move out within 7 days or face court proceedings. It is suppose to be a legal document of some sort. Not to mention that the person only 1 month and 6 days behind in rent. I doubt the landlord had served them with the Notice to quit letter before feb 6tgh. This is prob just a poor attempt at that letter. They do have to give the tenant 7 days time ,in so i guess that could be considered illegal. If it ends up in court the tenant might be able to use that to their advantage.

Nice landlords finish last. Unfortunately, some tenants know how to milk the system and will take advantage of landlords who let rent payments slide. Although the language is harsh, you'd probably understand if you had experience as a landlord.

Sounds perfectly legit to me.

I'd suggest your propose the wording that you would have liked to see and let us evaluate it.

Maybe I'm reading a different post from everyone else in this thread, but I'm pretty sure the OP said his girlfriend pays her rent on time.

My question is, was the eviction for the OP's girlfriend? If so, if she does pay her rent on time, it is strange that she would receive that notice. And if they did evict her, it would be illegal.

No, you're not reading a different post--you just didn't read it carefully.

If you'll re-read the original post, you'll note that the OP merely found this notice lying on the floor in the hallway.

Whoever the note was for deserves it..It's not like the rents huge or anything, sounds like around 700/month. The delinquent tenants been avoiding them as well...I don't see (at all) why you feel you'd have "lost it"...why?
Are you saying the landlord deserves to be ripped off?
Should the landlord suck up to them and beg in a whiny little voice for the tenant to please give them some rent?
If I had a tenant that avoided me, and wouldn't even give a reason, or explain why they couldn't pay the rent, I'd be a lot less nice about it.
The notice was probably tacked onto the tenants door, and they just threw it on the floor...I don't see anything wrong with what the landlords doing (just trying to get the rent)...

I guess what I'm really trying to understand is the point of the OP's post.

First off, they're putting their nose in other people's business by reading information not addresses to him or his partner.

Second, landlords have a right to give an eviction notices to candidates who are behind on their rents. I'm also not aware of it being illegal for landlords to send notices requesting back rent. They're trying to make money after all. Should they allow individuals to live there for free?
