Here's a nice lovely blog post showing some recent highlights of the city.

What’s going on in… Detroit! Are you wondering “why in the world would anyone want to go to Detroit?” Some of my coworkers asked me that very same question – because it’s no secret the stories of crime, urban decay and even the recent bankruptcy of the city itself have created many negative impressions. For those living under a rock, Detroit has been frequently featured in national news as being the largest U.S. municipality to ever file for bankruptcy. But as a native of the area (and one who returns fairly often) I can tell you that there are still a great many positive attributes the city has, and on top of those there’s been an influx in entrepreneurialism and considerable growth as of late – one that I haven’t seen the likes of at any point in my memory.

People try to umbrella city government and the private sector, confusing one with the other. The two have been going in opposite directions, but outsiders aren't aware.
Culturally speaking, you can compare Detroit to other big cities and find it lacking, or you can compare it to outstate boondocks where culture is wanting. That is why Detroit with its problems is still a gem in that regard - of course many people don't know about it, don't care about it, are satisfied without it, and they voice that opinion as though it is gospel - and to them it is.
Yep, cityfolk and countryfolk - after trying both I personally have opted for the former. Countryfolk have the peace and quiet they desire - though I have found out that the little criminals are mobile.

Is that post really necessary? I mean, did you even put thought into it before posting? The whole reason I made this thread is because it shows what people hardly ever notice about the city. The crap you posted is pretty much the only thing that ever gets broadcasted out and honestly everyone and their mother has probably seen it already.

So yea, thanks for contributing by being just as classy as those in the video.

The blog highlights some really cool things going on in the city. It motivates me to want to visit places like Shinola and Green Dot Staples, as I never really paid those places much attention. It is too bad that more of these things are not happening in the outer neighborhoods of Detroit, but maybe the resurgence will radiate outward from the core soon enough.
