Sure. People do that all the time almost anywhere except the ritziest parts of the state.

You could live perfectly well on that in Hamtramck or pretty much all of Detroit or Ferndale. Just don't expect to get yourself a nice big mansion in Grosse Pointe

You can shop at Aldi and Dollar Tree or you can shop at Westborn Market and Papa Joe's.

Life is as cheap or expensive as you choose to make it out to be. Never think otherwise.

Absolutely it's possible. But it depends on what you deem as a necessity to living.

$27K gross? Not likely, unless there is a different standard of "living."

$27K net? Very possible.

With average rent at $750 a month, it would be hard.

It would also depend on your current expenses. Do you have a car payment? Student loans? Other debts?

Do you currently own a car? You won't be able to rely on public transportation in Michigan.

Of course it's possible, you just have to manage your funds and not leverage yourself.

Assuming you mean $27,000 a year, yes. IF you know how to manage your money correctly. Wherever you live will probably be a bit below average but not terrible.

Yes. Here is how
1. Buy you a Honda civic 2002 ( at least 36 mi/gallon) or any reliable small car. You can get it for $3000 or less.
2. Find you a place in the city of Madison Heights a suburb just three miles north of the city of Detroit . It is safe and affordable. Or look for something in the city of Clawson , also close to Madison Heights. If you do not want to live in Oakland county, you can go to the city of Wayne, in Wayne county.
In those cities you can easily find a nice 1- bedroom for $400 or $450.
3. Shopping? For food go to JOE RANDAZZO , with $45 you will have enough fresh real vegetable for at least a week.

Keep in mind in metro Detroit you will need a car. BCOZ buses are slow on purpose )

Some advices: avoid strip clubs, they have a record of too many shootings.
Avoid being on Grand Boulevard in the city of Detroit. Avoid East Side ( in the city of Detroit)

If you want to have fun, go to Great Lake crossing mall, or go downtown Detroit in the area where Tiger stadium , Ford Field are ( between Fisher freeway and the Detroit river ). You will enjoy it. You can also go to downtown Birmingham, just to hang out. It is a rich suburb with nice people. You will not be able to rent anything there because you will find a studio for $ 1 million , I said ONE M I L L I O N.

I hope this was useful.

Yes, basically the entire state outside Washtenaw and Oakland Counties.

In the MBS area, or Mt Pleasant, you can get a 1 bedroom for $400/month. Or rent a 2 bedroom for $500 and get a roommate.
