Ann Arbor is one's best bet because it is a college town, but because of that the majority of people will be students and recent grads. I'm sure those in their late 20s would feel out of place. Ann Arbor is also a bit off the path from the rest of the metro area where most young professionals probably live. Royal Oak is alright but still pales in comparison to what some other cities offer. I'd say the weakest point however is downtown. It is improving but there still isn't a "district" that's full of bars and dance clubs with people crowding the sidewalks on weekend evenings.
This is all subjective based I guess, because I have never heard of Seattle, Boston, or Vancouver having better nightlife. But that's from a young African American crowd. I've heard many out of towners and even celebrities give great reviews on Detroit's party scene, even Alica Keys from NYC said Detroit parties harder than most that's why it's one of her favorite cities. What entertainment options doesn't it offer besides what was already mentioned? Out in west MI, people from WMU are going to Detroit every chance they get for entertainment. 2+ hour drives and they are just as close to Chicago as they are Detroit yet they still frequent both cities. I meet people from Canada and Ohio all the time not just Toledo but even Cleveland and other parts who come to Detroit for it's entertainment options. Chicago people always show up in Detroit as well, especially for dance battles, performances, ect. You have 4 pro sports, 4 casinos, many dance clubs, many strip clubs, many parties, many malls of all tier's of shopping, many waterparks even beaches, party boats, yacht clubs, major concerts, museums, back to back summer events, places like Belle Isle and the Riverwalk, not to mention great food and women what more do you want? You can make a case for there not being one main strip or center for entertainment and the 2am closing time as I have stated a couple time before already but what else? Not for tourist but for residents. You more or less have the same things going on in Detroit as you do in most other major cities. Overall it's nothing different that the average person in LA or Atlanta does that the average person in Detroit doesn't do.

Tens and thousands of other people go to the games and have a good time so you won't be missed. Your loss not ours. One less problem without you

You've never been to Detroit, stop. Our whole city isn't a cesspool.

Not the whole city is a cesspool. Come on now.

University District

Woodbridge

Joseph Berry Subdivision

Why are so concerned with how people view Detroit anyway? Do you have any ideas on what can improve Detroit and make it a better place? Please share.

You're really missing out. Downtown is pretty safe and the drive down Woodward or I 75 isn't bad. You're way more likely to get in an accident then a carjacking unless if you go out of your way to drive through abandoned neighborhoods.

Like I said earlier in the thread, if you go across the river to Windsor on a Friday and Saturday night, you will see this on and around Oullette Avenue in downtown Windsor. It's crazy over there. I saw the same thing on Ionia Street in Downtown Grand Rapids when I went last year, but Windsor's strip had even more people spilling out onto the streets and waiting in line to get into the dance clubs.

I don't think downtown Detroit will ever get like this because of the lack of connected storefronts and blocks of parking lots . In downtown, you have several small nodes of activity where there might be 2 or 3 nightspots that are next to each other, like "the Well" and "Baltimore Bar" on Broadway street, with "Delux Lounge" and "the Old Shillelagh" around the corner on Monroe - but one continuous strip or district probably not.

Another example would be Park Avenue - you have Cliff Bells, Centaur, the Park Bar/Bucharest Grill, and Town Pump Tavern on the same street but spread out along 3 blocks.
