Just moving to the area and would like to be within about 30 min commuting time to Dearborn
I trending towards BIRMINGHAM or ROYAL OAK
Any feedback or other ideas where is a good place to relocate to???

I work in Dearborn and can tell you Royal Oak and Birmingham are outside your 30 minute commute time -- at least during rush hour.

It all depends where you choose in the those cities to be honest.

For example, if you're "downtown B'Ham" then you'd be right at Southfield Rd so it'd be a straight shot down and nothing to worry. Same if you lived at Main/11 Mile in Royal Oak it would be much easier to get down to 8 mile and then across to Southfield Fwy much faster than 696. It would be much longer if you lived in a less strategic place (e.g. 14 Mile/Crooks in Royal Oak) because that would add 10 minutes or so just to get to downtown Royal Oak.

Ferndale/Midtown/Downtown Detroit and Dearborn themselves are also good options. Congrats on the gig!

You right on the bubble of a 30 minute commute for both of those places to Dearborn.
During peak rush-hour this is a 30-45 minute commute due to traffic. Its in your range and many of people do it daily.

just to toss in a plug for Ann Arbor I am on the SE side and 34 minutes to Ford World HQ. Add to that only 25 minutes to the airport if flying is ever on your agenda. 8 minutes the the train station for a trip to Chicago.

If you only require being in close proximity to DECENT nightlife and dining/drinking options, and the public schools aren't an issue, you could look at Dearborn itself, specifically downtown West Dearborn - avoid the commute. It has some good restaurant and bar options, a great grocery store (Westborn Market) and is less than a mile from a Kroger grocery store, Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum, and one of the better malls in the metro area, Fairlane. There is a ton of big box store nearby too, and a couple nice trails nearby.

There have been small mixed-use condos built in the downtown in recent years, and there is a new mixed-use building being built right now.

I think it's funny that whenever you look at threads here where people ask about Ann Arbor commutes people give hyperbolic answers like "it'll be 3 hours a day in the car" when anyone who has ever done it knows AA-Dearborn or AA-Detroit is like 30-45 minutes 99% of the time.

But yeah, if you want 30 minutes to Dearborn or less you should consider the western Wayne County suburbs or Farmington Hills.
