I have heard that some areas of Corktown are definitely improving, for example the new businesses on Michigan Ave like Slow's. As far as what streets and areas, I don't know the specifics.

I wouldn't call the area of the real Tiger Stadium "Downtown" when it comes to residential. More like Corktown. But if you're interested in that area, go to mass one Sunday at Most Holy Trinity and ask around there. They'll point you in the right direction. I believe it's the oldest church building in the city right in the middle of Corktown.

The area still looks like a warzone to me, but I'm not young and on that kind of a budget anymore. Might have been OK for me 25 years ago though. Then again I could have made a few hundred a night parking cars on my front lawn during ballgames.

Wow, can I say I just looked up some homes in Corktown and I do not know who would pay the prices for some of these places. There is a one bedroom loft type condo built into a warehouse. $214,900! :-O I mean it looks nice but folks this is still Detroit. There is also a condo with 2 bedrooms and three baths for $199,900.

I must say this 1895 built beauty is more of my idea of what I'd like to live in. Not too pricey, and from the one photo, the neighborhood looks nice.

That area isn't downtown/midtown. They are close though. I personally don't see the appeal of Corktown at all.

That price is not high because it is in Detroit. Have you looked at the price of lofts in Royal Oak?
