I'm selling my house and need to rent an apartment in the western suburbs for about 4 to 5 months. I also have a 60 pound dog.

What resource is best for allowing me to find available apartments that do short term rentals and allow larger dogs? Of course, I can go through individual ads on Craigslist or call apartment complexes, but I'm hoping that there is an app or service that allows a filter to hone in on a candidate.

Thanks in advance!

Friends.

The best places are going to be rented without being advertised much. (If you are looking for a house). You can also just drive around and look for signs. Online sources are great for apartment complexes, but any reasonably priced nice house rentals will get snapped up right away.

Best option we have found is to choose a community, go hang out there get to know people, visit the churches, hang out at bars, let them know you love the community and are looking for a very nice affordable place to rent. Make it clear you are clean and responsible, someone will eventually refer you to a friend who has a rental.

Another option you might try - I did it while living out east - is posting an ad under the "Housing Wanted" section of Craigslist.

Post the cities you are interested in, the rent you want to pay and the info on the dog etc.

Then everyone who contacts you likely already knows your situation and provides an option.

It's a much more efficient use of your time instead of spending hours hunting/pecking. Post an ad in 10 minutes and let them come to you. Maximize your day!

Interesting idea. I guess I figured this avenue was mostly for people on the down and out, desperate for anything - but I have nothing to lose.

I've rented an apartment or two that way. Not a bad way to go, but, just like everything on CL, YMWV.
