I've eaten at Applebee's before but never ate at IHOP. I went to the closest IHOP to where I live an found out that they had closed down, and I didn't really feel like riding to the other side of town.

There is an IHOP in Detroit about a mile or two down Jefferson from downtown before you get to Belle Isle.

Coney islands are much better quality for a greasy spoon breakfast. Specially Legends over by the Jefferson Chrysler plant.

I know many of today's hipsters decry chains ... but wow ... that is a great combination.

I like IHOP. Applebees is overpriced for what you get and too chainlike (everlasting bland so it appeals to as many people as possible).

I gues I will just have to sit on the right hand side of the place so I can go to only IHOP and avoid the Applebees premium.

Do you think they would do free parking in the Millender Center for people eating there?

I wonder if the lack of parking is what causes that location to change over so much/fail.

Granite City in the Ren Cen validates parking - as does Joe Muer's etc.

Interesting combination. I actually like the fact that they are doing this in Detroit FIRST. I think both restaurants will be successful though.

Another thing I didn't think about. If Applebee's is trying to do something like this, then the one on 8 mile and Woodward must be doing ok.

Better than KFC and A&W, or KFC and Taco Bell, I presume.

Same here (mostly). I'm fortunate to have a lot of mom & pop restaurants where I live. On rare occasion I will go to a chain.
