Gabrielle, since you are new to these forums, do you realize that people can see your recent posts? You are expressing some very conflicting messages, including mentioning that you are a 21 year old college student, not a 29 year old. What ever is going on, wishing the best for you.

My grandmother lived a few blocks away at Brock & Park Grove (house still stands). Used to be a clean and pristine middle-class neighborhood where all the men on her block worked in the auto industry. She bought the 2-bed house for $17k in the 1950's and she sold it for exactly the same price (she insisted) in perfect condition in the early 1980's. By then, most of her neighbors had moved away (to the suburbs there) due to white flight, decline in factory jobs, and increased crime.

Yeah.....I did look at that too....and if she is to be believed.....she needs professional help, which I hope she seeks and gets. It almost seems as if, based upon some of what she has said in other post, that she is seeking "suicide by ghetto" or something. It seems as if her infatuation with "rough" neighborhoods and adventure seeking is a product of not being happy with and hence not valuing her life, therefore, risking it more for pleasure. However, you never know what you can believe on the net, but sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

I hope nobody comes to Detroit for the sole purpose of trying to get themselves killed. That's the last thing Detroit needs is people purposely trying to become a statistic. Ironically, if that is the case and she is still healthy after 2 years in the redzone. Detroit has to be pretty disappointing as a "death trap".

Lol.....I was thinking the same thing. I doubt that she could do that in Chicago or St Louise. That said.....maybe its so strange that people think she is a "trap"....an undercover cop or something. However, I do think its easier for a female to survive in such an environment.......if she forms relationships with the right males. Contrast that with the white guy who tried to move in the hood (from out West somewhere....Portland I think) and was posting about it a couple of years back......never heard from that guy again. Don't know if he got killed or what....but it was obvious that he bit off more than he could chew.

No he's alright. Nothing happened to him personally crime wise but when Detroit had that flood a couple years ago his house was one of them and his investment was basically gone. He was already working and spending money to fix up the house and then the flood ruined it and the repair estimates ended up costing more than he spend on the house already so he ended up just cutting his losses and going back home I think. Him losing his investment, more than anything ran him away.

Words can't describe how much of a ride its been. Yes I do enjoy living here, yes it does get scary, and yes people call me crazy for living in an environment like this. But I've learned so much. before I start, I grew up in a rich suburban all white area back in Louisville, KY area ( Indian hills, KY). It was eye opening to move here. I could of chosen nicer area in the metro to live in and commute to my job, but I chose to live in the city limits of Detroit to do something different.
While living here for the last couple years, my life has been pretty colorful nd eventful. I hear occasional gun shots, there are a lot of prostitutes and "blow" houses ( not exaggerating). When I drive down a lot of roads, I notice a lot of stolen cars( I know this because there parked by abandoned house and sometimes their ignition is punched out. ) its gets rather grim here.
But I just say though, I have made some very very close friends in the neighborhood. were all what's left in our little area. so were very tight knit.
Like the great Keith David says in Platoon, "*****, gotta be rich in the first place to think like that."

Assuming this post is real -- now is a good time to wake up. You wouldn't appear to be doing anything except putting yourself in danger to make a point.

The people on your block have reasons to be there. You don't.

Suck up your ego and move to Midtown or whatever.

Urban violence is stupid and arbitrary. You'll be fine until you aren't.

good catch. It seems he/she is being less than truthful in at least one thread.
