Is there a Detroit accent?

Is Kat Timpf a good example of this?

No, that's how the people talk outside of the Northeast and South.

Really? It does not sound like the General northern or midwestern accent that supposedly all the newscasters have.

When she says try and sounds a little like chy. And they definitely dont sound like that in California. I have met people from rural midwest and they also dont sound like that.

To me, Nicloe Curtis host of Rehab Addict has a very Detroit sounding accent, as she should being that she's from Detroit. Listen to the clip provided.

I may be wrong, but I travel all across the country on a regular basis and the only people that sound like they have an accent are in the Northeast and South.

I just took this test http://www.youthink.com/quiz.cfm?obj_id=9827 and it said I have a Western accent. I lived my whole life in Michigan. So maybe I was wrong?

That has an almost nasal quality to it like NYC.

I just took this test Quiz - Which American accent do you have? - YouThink.com and it said I have a Western accent. I lived my whole life in Michigan. So maybe I was wrong?
Are you referring to my vid of Kat Timpf or the rehab addict Nicole Curtis from the other poster?

I took that test and says I have northern accent, yet people always tell me I have a thick northeastern accent.

She doesn't sound as "nasally" midwestern that I usually notice in people from the Detroit area.

Kid in this video covers alot of the nuances in MI accent. https://youtu.be/Pqhy2ejuGLU

There's absolutely a Detroit accent, though I'm not sure the woman in that video has it. My father-in-law, who grew up in the Detroit area, has it, as does his father. A good example of a prominent person with the same accent is the actor JK Simmons, who both looks and sounds like my father-in-law:

I need to clarify something I said earlier about there being a similar accent outside of the Northeast and South. People in Northern Michigan have an accent which extends out to Northern Minnesota. I think it is best exemlpified in Sarah Palin, who althoigh is not from that area, I believe the accent was transplanted to Alaska from Minnesota.
