Have you ever been to a large metropolitan area?

Detroit is exactly like all of those, except the inner city is much worse.

For people who don't travel much, most large metro areas are very similar, save maybe San Fran, LA and NY.

Beyond that, though, you can pretty much close your eyes and imagine moving to greater Cleveland or Milwaukee or whatever.

There are more rural suburbs and more affluent suburbs and yadda yadda yadda.

Hi, Just to correct a few of your assumptions.

If you are an automotive/ Mechanical background, your GM job would be mostly in Milford or Pontiac. Pontiac is cheap but not safe. If you really punch above your weight you could be in Rec cen in downtown.

FCA might be Auburn hills or Chelsea

Ford is in Dearborn or Allen park.

Take a look at Toyota and hyundai in Ann arbor, Nissan in farmington hills, Mercedes in Ann arbor/ Redford etc.

If you really want to do awesome stuff, look up TARDEC in Warren - if you can get a security clearance.
