Any thoughts on the redevelopment of the old Northland Mall in Southfield? Curious to hear folks' input on this.

From the Freep yesterday: Northland Mall's possible future: Pricey condos

As unpopular as Southfield seems to be on this board, it's a growing community and that's prime real-estate. There is no reason this shouldn't be redeveloped as mixed use.

Pricey condos? Maybe, but I'm not sure it fits the market of someone looking to buy at 8 Mile and Lodge. Market rate sensible condos with a mixed use commercial ground floor would probably do quite well here. Throw a movie theater in one of the old anchor stores, as seems to be so popular, and watch as the area really becomes a gathering place for young families and singles looking for an alternative to the pricier apartments in other "hip" suburbs and the dullness of your more standard suburbia.

Typical fate of a dead mall.

Build housing for the surging Millennials!
