I want to go for vacation in UP or explore some of the beautiful lake Michigan destination but I really dont want to drive for hours. Is there any shuttle/bus service that takes people to those vacation spot during summer.

There is/was a pretty cheap flight out of Chicago to Houghton or Marquette atleast when I was going to school there (2007-2010).

Greyhound also has a bus out of Chicago. It is pretty expensive and takes the whole night to get there.

You can fly to Marquette, Escanaba, the Soo, and Iron Mountain direct from Detroit.

Indian Trials has routes from Detroit to the UP and it also looks like you can get up to the UP using Greyhound from Detroit to Bay City and Bay City to St Ignace.

I'm not sure how committed you are to taking a bus but if it's $100 and 15 hours to Escanaba you would be much better off driving for 7 hours or paying the extra $100 and flying.

How do you plan to get around once you arrive?

If you have a ton of time, you could bring a bicycle, but the neat things to see are not very close together.

I didn't know we could fly up there, awesome. hopefully the tickets isn't too high but I am guessing at this time of year it might be very high. I wanted quick weekend getaway to see 1 -2 spot. Ideal goal is to have more often getaway for short burst of time instead of taking week to see everything in one round. figure since we are so close (but not too close enough for me to want to drive for 7 hrs), a cheap transportation that might take 1-2 hour extra in a comfortable bus wouldn't be so bad. I will look into some of the options listed here and see if they make sense

I've taken the Greyhound/ Indian trails from Chicago to Houghton many times. It is not a comfortable bus at all.

If I 've to do it now, I'll fly into Marquette and take a rental out of Sawyer airport.

Yeah, because Chicago is right next door to Detroit.

A quick peek on Google suggests its theoretically possible to get a round flight from Metro to Marquette for $195. But those seem to be off hours flights.

But if 2 people are going you are up to $400 plus a car rental for the weekend. At that point, for my taste driving ain't so bad if you have a decently reliable car.
