Thats not a route I'd want to take on a bicycle.
Monroe is in Monroe County. The Southern Detroit suburbs are in Wayne county. There is quite a bit of distance between Monroe and the southern suburbs. The areas north of Monroe are VERY rural and not set up for bicycling.
The southern suburbs are more suburban and not much of a safety threat. But its a long ride through farmland to get there. definitely do not ride that route at night. Its rural, so not well lit.

Come up Dixie highway/North Turnpike until it becomes Jefferson. It is a pretty pleasant ride, just be careful of cars. In the early morning it is really nice, but drivers are blinded by the rising sun so it can be a risk, especially where the road turns to the east. Otherwise it is a nice quiet ride whenever i have been down there.

I plan on doing it during the daytime and had rode my bike on country roads from one county to the next before and felt safe doing so, since I'll be in Michigan during the summertime I plan on doing it during the daytime, my cousin will likely be working when I'm visiting her.
