I don't see armed guards at the Whole Foods in Ann Arbor either.
You can't find a Kroger or Meijer in Detroit can you? Why is that?

I would bet just about every party store, gas station, pawn shop, jewelry store, and general small businesses in Detroit is armed.
Maybe the problem isn't Whole Foods its Detroit. So if the thought of armed store owners concerns you then stay out of Detroit.

It's an urban neighborhood in the city with the highest violent crime rate in the country, a mile away from some pretty crappy neighborhoods. Maybe it got robbed recently. It's unfortunate, but it is still a city, and a high crime one at that.

What is the point of this thread? Any chance you get to bash Midtown, even in the sly way that you did in your Opening Post, you will. Sad.

Years ago when that store opened, you predicted that it would fail miserably. Why don't you admit you were wrong, eat some crow, and stop hating.

Can't you be happy that 2 square miles of a continuously declining 140 square mile city is actually becoming an awesome, dynamic, vibrant place? You gotta hate on that too. People need to examine themselves to determine "what is in my heart?". Why do I have contempt for a place? Why do I put it down whenever I get the chance? What wrong did the city of Detroit do to me?

Either you're slightly off on your number, or I'm in the wrong business.
sorry, should have been per day..my over zealousness got the best of me..

Rented cops have a premium.. Like a substitute teacher is paid $80 a day, the agency charges closed to $175 a day.

A rent-a-c0p may earn $100 a day, but his/her agency is charging $150 or more to turn a profit--it is called CAPITALISM 101...

Any good Lifetime Member of the NRA knows their guns...besides I walked up to them and asked if that was indeed a gun and not a stun gun...

Saying they have armed guards at Whole foods is bashing???

I have heard time and again how safe and wonderful Midtown is, so one really has to wonder why all the hardware?

it has failed miserably in providing reasonable priced food for Detroiters and jobs for Detroit citizens...

If not for the professionals at DMC, the store would be a ghost story.

I am there everyday and even some weekend, it is FAR from dynamic and vibrant. Misrepresenting reality will never fix the real problems of gentrification.

The westside of Detroit has had 2 Meijer stores for a while now. Google is your friend buddy.

But if you lived in the area and didn't want to travel very far for groceries and you had a choice of shopping at a store with safety measures and one without, which would you choose?

I did try googling and missed it. But one was on the news last night when their store security, an off duty Detroit cop used his night stick in an unruly customer so in a way my original point stands.

I see armed guards at the chain establishments in Grosse Pointe. It was alarming when I first moved here from the exurbs but I'm used to it now and don't really notice. Armed guards wouldn't stop me from frequenting a store.

I have seen them at Kroger, Barnes and Noble, Joanne Fabrics.

I was visiting a loved one at St John Hospital on Moross in Detroit (a par 5 from Grosse Pointe Farms) recently and I noticed armed security guards walking the halls. There were security guards in cars in the parking lots too. I can't say for sure they were armed too but if the guys inside were I imagine the guys outside were.
