Yes, the crime and murder rate are going down, but it is still too high. See below discussion.

//www.city-data.com/forum/detro...ce-1966-a.html

What will it be like in 20 years?

-Many neighborhoods will be completely cleared out.

-The entire riverfront from Belle Isle Bridge to Ambassador Bridge will be one long park and will be one of the most desirable places to live and play in Metro Detroit

-We will have a ferry that crosses from downtown Detroit to downtown Windsor

-We will have 3 commuter rail lines - Ann Arbor-DTW-Detroit, Pontiac-Detroit, Macomb County-Detroit, and we will have BRT on the major "SPOKE" roads like Woodward, Michigan, Grand River, etc.

-Detroit will have a 30-35% white population

-Crime will fall to middle of the pack of cities

-DPS will dissolve and there will be nothing but charter schools for public education in Detroit

-I could go on...

Detroit will be annexed by the suburbs and Oakland County will secede from the state as Brooks Patterson proclaims West Bloomfield a the capital of the new state.

IN 20 years there will be no murders anywhere. Everyone will have a government drone watching them at all times. If you try to murder someone, the drone will shoot you. There will only be attempted murders, but no murders.

okay guys, I appreciate the responses, but I'm asking a serious question and I am really curious. i'm not intending to make a joke. usroute10, thank you so much for the info, I'm hoping Detroit keeps it up and I hope Detroit does become just that in 20 years. what i'm really surprised from what ive just read is that Detroit will annex Macomb county suburbs? really?

The answer to your last question is NO. I'm no lawyer but Michigan law with regard to annexation make that virtually impossible.

Downtown is improving. But I worry that it’s a fad. As for the neighborhoods, no, I don’t believe they’re improving. There’s poverty and a lot of people with no skills who don’t have the capacity to learn much of anything other than basic labor due to their upbringing and/or the school system. It’s a cultural problem that won’t be solved because nobody wants to address the systemic cultural issues in black communities due to the nature of our politically correct society.

Yes it is improving. It isn't just "downtown" either. In the neighborhoods public transportation has improved, police response times have improved, EMS response times have improved, unemployment rate is lower, violent crime including murders are getting better, nearly every street has working street lights now, street sweepers are back, more blight being cleared out, home values are rising in most neighborhoods, ect.

Is it where it should be? F*ck no! But it isn't a light switch either. You can't just have all the problems Detroit had a few years ago and expect everything to be Mayberry in just a few years. But the bottom line is it has improved from the bankruptcy and recession days.
