Please tell a New Yorker that $300K isn't the sale price! How's the neighborhood? No report of foreclosure, and the article says she paid the back taxes....!

It's in a beautiful neighborhood where Detroit's most elite lived about a century ago. The neighborhood is ok, the residents hire private security, but the the elite have long since moved to the 'burbs and that price is probably a fair one for the area. Those old houses are beautiful but they tend to be money pits that cost a fortune to heat and maintain.

Amazing how much house you can find for that kind of money in Detroit. Where I'm from you can get an apartment for $300k.

Aretha owned several homes in Metro Detroit, and I'm not sure that she ever lived in the one in Palmer Woods that is the subject of this thread. The house I always read that she spent most of her time at was the one on Kiftsgate Bend in the upscale suburb of Bloomfield Hills. That area is popular with modern day professional athletes and other celebrities who live in homes such as this:

That is one ugly house. The interior design is awful too.

Anyone get the correct taxes on 'Retha's house? Numbers on various sites are all over the place.

I didn't say it was attractive or tasteful. I have seen as bad or worse in other places with high dollar real estate. The Kardashians come to mind.

Detroit has some great real estate if you know where to look and or are willing to over look some minor details. And yes, much of it you couldn't get a rat infested hovel apartment NYC.
