What's your favorite greater Detroit area festival/show that some folks might not know about?

It can be related to anything.. Music, auto, art, books, food etc.

I like dally in the alley, or rather I liked it. It has gotten too big, crowded, and more and more commercial. Not sure I will continue to like it. This year I did not love it. If it goes further that way I will not bother with it anymore.

Thanks. Just watched some YouTube videos. That's the kind of responses I was hoping to get.

It's pretty well known, but the Ann Arbor Folk Festival (2 nights in January at Hill Auditorium) is fantastic!

I'm moving to the Detroit area soon-ish. All I know about is the auto show and the sports teams.

Any motorcycle events would be cool too. New, vintage, choppers, sports bikes.. I like em all.

I thought you were only looking for smaller events. There are loads of big ones:

International Jazz Festival

Movement Festival (Electronic and house music) started in Detroit, people come from all over the world.

Youmacon - for people into Asian cartoons like Pokemon (about 10,000 people) - Anime. It i a dress up thing.

Winterfest (has not worked out well lately - too warm. This is usually in January I think.

There is another smaller Jazz Festival, I do not remember the name.

Woodward dream cruise.

Christmas time laser lights festival thing.

Some sort of Christmas Caroling thing in mid-town.

There are a ton more. I am too tired to think much this morning. Someone will fill in the list. WE have big festivals very frequently. Not sure about motorcycle festivals.

I generally frequent the Ann Arbor Art Fair, Arts Beats & Eats, NAIAS, and Woodward Dream Cruise. All are larger events.

The Plymouth Ice Festival is also a cool event to check out, they have a great downtown area and some impressive ice carving.

Yes, this year was a total wash from previous years. Some say it was banning BYOB, others say it is just too big with less substance.
