My favorite movie is Joker, my favorite hometown is metro-Detroit, where I grew up. Having moved from the state relatively not too long ago though, unfortunately I was not able to catch the movie there; so I was wondering how viewing went there/how it did. Does anyone know e.g. how the reaction was? Same as probably most places? Did you see it? What did you think of it? Thanks!

My daughter saw it and said it was meh. "Its a movie" was her description. My son say it and thought it was depressing but very good.

The film is good, I liked it. But I liked the character of the Joker in "Batman".

I did not like it, for no fault of the movie itself.

It’s a superbly directed and acted film that, unfortunately, will always be compared with Heath Ledger’s performance.

Rewatching him uttering a single “Why so serious ?” line very much destroyed the entire two plus hours of Phoenix’s wonderful performance for me... unfair, but it’s just the way it is..

I thought it was an interesting watch, but didn't remind me of the character Joker from any Batman comics, graphic novels, tv shows, or prior movies I've read/watched. The Joker is always doing these grand schemes, but the main character in this one seemed too simple-minded to ever plan anything like that. Could have practically removed the Joker/DC Comics branding, called it The Clown, and the movie wouldn't be any different.

To answer your question, I didn't notice any special cultural reaction, not sure why there would or should be. Kinda forgettable movie, to be honest. Not bad at all, well-made, but nothing exceptional I want to re-experience. If it didn't have the Joker branding, I don't think most people would really care much about it.
