Hey Everyone,

I live in downtown Royal Oak and take SMART to work in downtown Detroit. I'm considering not replacing my car when the lease ends and just renting occasionally for errands, trips, etc.

One hang-up -- is there a way to the airport that costs less than a $50 or $60 cab ride, but is shorter than the 1 hour 30 minute!!!??? SMART ride from downtown to the airport? I cannot find any information about shuttles or moderately priced options...

Thanks for any insights.

Wow, I am impressed by your efforts. Unfortunately I don't know of any transportation options to the airport, which is particularly lame since DTW is a major hub and the airport (well, McNamara terminal) is a pretty good facility. That light rail line they are considering for the Woodward corridor should really run between the airport and downtown. Heck, that might even bring in some sorely needed out of town visitors!
But I digress. There may be one other option, though. You might be able to save for the taxi rides (I prefer the hired sedans and they don't cost any more than a cab) between downtown and DTW by living downtown, walking/biking to work and pocketing the bus fare!
