Guernsey's is hands down the best ice cream in the Detroit metro and probably the entire state. They are a creamery so they produce their own ice cream as opposed to just being an ice cream shop. They just opened their completely remodeled location on Novi Road.

The dairy store at MSU has unusually rich, wonderful ice cream if you feel like taking a trip to E. Lansing. They have their own cows on campus and factory there, too.

Detroit Water Ice Factory (I had the water Ice, i wouldn't consider it ice cream)
Shatila Bakery & Café (i do like their ice cream, more like Gelato)
Guernsey Farms Dairy - made the list, I see it recommended by few already
Erma's Original Frozen Custard - Made the list, I see this was recommended too
