To purchase a house in a decent neighborhood in Detroit (I don't mean mansions or anything like that, just a neighborhood that is not known for violence)? House - 4 bedroom, 2 baths, 2 car garage, 2000 square feet.

ogplife,

Do you mean the city of Detroit proper, or in the suburbs?

Do want a house that needs a little repair/updating, a whole of repair, or move in ready/all-completed?

If you are talking about the city of Detroit, fixer uppers in exclusively neighborhoods can start as low as $35,000 !!!

Terrific info thanks a lot! Yeah I was talking move in ready and directly in the city. These are decent neighborhoods? You can live in a decent neighborhood in Detroit for less than $100,000. I know the city is on down times, but I thought it would take at least $150,000 for the house I described in a decent neighborhood.

My brother lives in Rosedale Park. He's lived there for 10 years and he loves it. He's never had any problems with crime. I'm not sure what the houses go for right now but you should check it out!

Rosedale Park/North Rosedale has some steals right now on great homes. I wish these deals were available when I still lived in Detroit.
