Goodbye Asian Village (Detroit, Dearborn: crime, bankruptcy, casinos)

I had never gone to the place but it seemed like one of the many good improvements for downtown. I heard many stories about it from friends though, mainly that it is not a "Village" and it was only one or two restaurants, not the row of shop's and restaurants that you think of. I always thought of it as a new "Greektown" area, not even close. I heard that the food was also very pricey for what you recieved. Another Detroit establishment bites the dust.

I saw that place. It looked mostly empty, so I never went there. There is an ok chineese place in the Millander center so if we wanted chinese, we go there.

Yeah, I never thought it would last.. It was overly ambitious and now turns out is a huge waste of money. That does not speak so highly for Detroit.

And as I recall, one or more of the casinos was recently in dire need of a cash infusion to keep bankruptcy at bay?

I'm telling you.. the city needs to be run by people who are capable of actually administrating it in a professional manner. The current administration is doing a terrible job. The mayor (and seemingly his family included) is a gangster.. the city council members act like animals rather than civilized professionals (Dearborn city council members don't bring out their animal-instincts when trying to solve something)... crime is nowhere near a decline (i don't care what the news reports)...

Detroit died after white flight. Someone just forgot to tell it's 900,000 residents the sad news. For the sake of dignity and some kind of self-preservation, I say bring back the old days when decent human beings ran the city.

**Detroit's sister city should be Soweto. So many similarities.

It didn't seem like there was any effort made at advertising. I only knew it was there because a family member worked on it. They could have turned it into a very big deal, but instead just let it go.
