It's a great concept that tons of poor european immigrants - most who are poor and already being discrimined against themselves (and having issues with other immigrants groups too) ...all struggling for limited jobs...will suddenly see millions and millions of blacks all demanding those jobs instead of them...and all of those humanitarian immigrants will just crawl up and die in the streets instead.

But...didn't happen. Even if it did, I think we'd STILL have exactly the same racial issues that we have today.
Bingo...which is that racism has always been rooted in economics. Its only when opportunity became more abundant (for whites) that the degree of racism declines. However...the era we are now entering is the musical chairs of an economy is secular decline. When the music stops....there will not be enough seats for everyone and that will breed the rise in racism again.

Whites just did not want to live around blacks because blacks have been treated so bad by whites that many white, deep down inside, fear revenge. Others worry about their daughters and black men. Others worry about other racially tinged things. Crime is a red herring.
...or maybe they don't want to live around black folks for the same reason black folks move into white neighborhoods? What about schools? Are schools a red herring too?

If this is a tit for tat type of thing...meaning that all our motives and realities are the same. Then Detroit should be 80% white and every Detroit suburb should be at least 20% black. About 20% of Metro Detroits 5 million people are black. Either Detroit suburbs are not 20% (or in the ball park) black due to racism or Detroit is not 80% white (or in the ball park) because of racism (the aggregate impact of past and present racism...that is). Take your pick or choose both.

Why should ANY area be a percentage of any race?

If folks are free to move about as they are able to afford, how can we postulate statistics that say cities should be XX% this and XX% that?

To say an area or people are racist because there lacks a % of any race or ethnicity is just WHACKED....

except maybe the wonder bread capital...

You missed my point or I failed to properly communicate it. If people are free to move about as they can afford...then why would not black people be making the same choices as white people the last 50 years...and moving from the city to all the different suburbs? Irish are all over. Italians are all over. Polish are all over. Germans are all over. Why are Africans concentrated in Detroit? The answer is past and present racism and let us not forget that a consequence of racism is that it has put blacks disproportionately in the lower classes. So classim and racism impacts blacks.

Another cry about racism, Indentured Servant? Blacks chose to live amongst themselves. Look at Africa, they've always lived in the lower class. Blacks who are in the middle and upper class chose to get an education and a good paying job like everyone else. Act normal, get treated normal.

African Americans have moved to:

SOUTHFIELD
TAYLOR
DEARBORN HEIGHTS
VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP
ROMULUS
GARDEN CITY
WAYNE
WESTLAND

except for the wonder bread place, AA have moved about the area as they wish.

They are still exiting DETROIT in records numbers...

Incidentally, thinking about why many AA from Detroit might NOT move into many of the suburbs...is mainly because they are so sterile and boring and dull. I'm thinking of places like Sterling Heights, etc...which are affordable enough for anyone who wants to move there.

But you're stuck living in some real boring dull place isolated from everywhere without much of a public transportation, and the houses are small little single-story ranch houses.

But you take DETROIT..and you have an abundance of large gorgeous houses...if you are an AA, with a city gov't way in your favor, and living in low-priced neighborhoods with large houses and family members all over....why make a move into some sterile little single-story rancher house in the middle of some suburb without any family members and friends around, etc.

(That being said, many AA's do move into the suburbs, and to add another on the list above, Mt. Clemens, MI as well).
