$70+ represents wages + health insurance + pension + HUGE legacy costs.

40 years ago giving old people additional health insurance was peanuts. The world changes.

Question for UAW people.

Health insurance for a family plan.
How much cost out of pocket per week/biweekly?
How much are deductibles and copays for hospital?
How much is a generic "doctor visit"?
How much for a prescription?

im a uaw worker and i make $16 not including health insurance. that $20+ an hour is not correct any longer after all the new contracts. the only guys making that kind of money are skilled trades. i believe some of the big three line workers might make that but new hires aren't even close. aam definately doesn't make near that after the buy down.

p.s. my our hourly, which includes health insurance, etc. is about $29 an hour, which is right in line with toyota and other us foreign auto companies.
also, we are negotiating a contract right now that is said to make us pay into our benefits and get rid of our very measly pension which will bring our wages down even further.

p.s.s. we do not get subpay(%95 pay when laid off) we get regular unemployment with no benefits just like everywhere else.

i work for one of the american axle companies. not one of the plants that were on strike earlier in the year.

$28.15/hr for unskillied and $32.15/hr for skilled. The new wages are $14 and $16 resp.. Not that the new wage means a h*ll of a lot since they will be the first to get laid-off in any downturn. Either way the U.S. taxpayer at an average wage of about $16/hr (soon to be lower with the current eco. environ.) is going to be paying taxes to cover these UAW wages and a posh UAW resort at Black Lake in Onaway.
